STANLEY, Aug. 11 — What is sure to be the most talked about and closest watched political race of the next 15 months in Page County, began today. Earlier this afternoon, Stanley Police Captain Aaron Cubbage officially announced his 2023 bid for sheriff of Page County on social media. The Facebook post includes a YouTube video (seen below) announcing the unofficial candidacy of the longtime student of law enforcement.

LURAY, Aug. 8 — On Monday night, the Luray Council continued its discussion of how to address “blighted properties and derelict buildings” within town limits. “I think it’s a good thing we’re doing it,” Councilman Jerry Schiro said. “I just want people to know it’s not as clean cut as some think it is.”

LURAY, Aug. 6-7 — Jerry Carter and five volunteers drove 1,059 miles over the weekend while collecting and disposing of 81 newspaper tubes no longer needed all across Page County. The fact that he lives in Carroll County accounts for some of the miles, and serves as a small testament to Carter’s commitment to helping others.

Lisa Danielle Moneymaker Rutt, 41, of Luray, died on Tuesday, Aug. 2, 2022, at Page Memorial Hospital. She was born on Dec. 24, 1980, in Manassas and was a daughter of Raymond Lewis Horton of Manassas and the late Karen Moneymaker-Mullins. Mrs. Rutt worked as a delivery driver for Domino’s....
