Iowa State men’s basketball landed its first commitment in the 2023 class, and he’s a high-level, priority target for the Cyclones.

Four-star shooting guard Jelani Hamilton announced his commitment to Iowa State on Friday, becoming the first junior player to verbally commit to the Cyclones. The 6-6, 180-pound guard currently plays at the Cumberland Christian Academy in Austell, Georgia.

Hamilton is the No. 7 player in Georgia, No. 18 shooting guard in the country and No. 111 player nationwide, according to 247Sports Composite.

In addition to Iowa State, Hamilton held offers from Alabama, Auburn, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, Illinois, LSU, Ole Miss, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech and Xavier. He has picked up all but one of those offers since February 2022, and Iowa State was the last team to offer Hamilton on May 31.

He visited Alabama, Auburn, Iowa State, Georgia and Georgia Tech. Hamilton visited Ames last week.
