Southern Durham 4-star edge rusher Jaybron Harvey commits to UNC

Southern Durham High School edge rusher Jaybron Harvey announced his verbal commitment on Friday afternoon.

Harvey, who is rated a four-star prospect, will play college football at the University of North Carolina next year.

Last season, Harvey compiled an impressive 28.5 sacks in 11 games for the Spartans, an average of 2.6 sacks per game. He also tallied 129 tackles, including 35 tackles for loss, and 33 quarterback hurries. Harvey recorded one interceptions, two forced fumbles, and one fumble recovery.

Defense is not the only side of the ball Harvey plays on. On offense, he plays receiver for Southern Durham. Last season, he caught six passes for 115 yards and a touchdown. He also recorded one rushing touchdown.

According to 247Sports.com, Harvey is the No. 6 overall player in North Carolina from the Class of 2023. The recruiting website ranks him as the No. 26 edge rusher in the country.

Harvey stands at 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds. Southern Durham coach Darius Robinson said college coaches believe he will be a NFL player one day based on his size, speed, and ability.

Harvey also plays basketball at Southern Durham.

Since May, Harvey has taken visits to four schools — Louisville, North Carolina, Oklahoma, and South Carolina. He also has offers from Appalachian State, Arizona State, Charlotte, Coastal Carolina, Delaware, Duke, East Carolina, Florida, Howard, Indiana, James Madison, Kentucky, Liberty, Michigan, Mississippi State, North Carolina Central, Penn State, Pittsburgh, Rutgers, Vanderbilt, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Wake Forest, Washington, and West Virginia.
