Hartford Police Department's long-time police chief is at the center of a drug investigation, investigators said Friday.

Hartford Police Chief Tressa Beltran was placed on-paid administrative leave following a seizure of prescription pills from the city's police department, city officials confirmed. Friday.

Acting on a search warrant, state and county investigators seized drugs from the Hartford Police Department Thursday around 11:30 a.m. Thursday according to the Van Buren County Sheriff's Office.

No arrests have been made in connection to the investigation, Van Buren County Sheriff's Office Captain Jim Charon said.

Detectives received multiple tips regarding illegal narcotics activity at the Hartford Police Department, according to Charon.

The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit seized less than 50 pills and several electronic devices, including a cell phone as part of the investigation, Charon said.

Detectives are investigating how Beltran allegedly obtained the drugs and how they were stored at the department, Charon said

The search warrant, approved by a Van Buren County District Court judge is under seal, records showed.

Hartford City Manager Yemi Akinwale said the city and police department are cooperating with the on-going investigation.

Chief Beltran became Hartford's chief in 2016 and was hired by the department as an officer in 1989, Akinwale said.

Harford Police has nine employees on staff, including six officers, according to the department's website.

When the ongoing investigation is completed, it will be submitted to the Van Buren County Prosecutor's Office to determine if criminal charges will be filed, Charon said.

The Van Buren County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Unit is comprised of Deputies from the Van Buren County Sheriffs Office and South Haven Police Department.
