Colleen Rhodus can describe the Excelsior Springs Community Center Farmers Market, held 8 a.m.-noon Wednesday, in less than 25 words. “(It’s) a simple, easy, fun, family friendly, come-in-and-have-a-good-time farmers market,” Rhodus said. Rhodus, market coordinator, started as a vendor at the market, selling straw bales, corn stalks and pumpkins. In the early spring of 2021 during a vendor meeting, Rhodus was handed the job of market coordinator. “He (former coordinator) handed me a notebook and said, ‘Here, you’re in charge,’” she recalled. Rhodus, whose farm family has existed for 100-plus years in Excelsior Springs and who has owned her own business, immediately began work on the market.
