Gas Plant 2 Wildfire in Coke County Continues to Burn Hundreds of Acres Near Silver

 

ROBERT LEE – Firefighters from the city of Robert Lee in Coke County responded to a wildfire Thursday afternoon on Gas Plant Rd. near the community of Silver in Northwest Coke County and are still battling the blaze Friday morning.  

According to the Lone Star Incident Management Team from the Texas Forest Service, the Gas Plant 2 fire has burned approximately 300 acres and was 25% contained as of 8 p.m. Thursday.  

Local firefighters requested assistance from the Texas Forest Service in the form of dozers and maintainers.  Communications reports also indicate they might have requested air support.  

The Gas Plant 2 wildfire in Coke County one of four Texas Forest Service teams are working Friday.  

Texas A&M Forest Service and TIFMAS fire resources responded to several new requests for assistance on wildfires across the state Thursday. 

 

Active Fires:

- Gas Plant 2 Fire, Coke County - est. 300 acres, 25% contained 

- Old Buckshot Complex (includes the Buckshot Fire), Kerr County - est. 300 acres, 50% contained 

- Dempsey Fire, Palo Pinto County - est. 11,598 acres, 77% contained

- Angora Fire, Kendall County - 90 acres, 95% contained

This a developing story.  West Texas residents are urged to use extreme caution over the Independence Day holiday weekend with fireworks and outdoor grilling.  Most counties in the Concho Valley and Big Country have burn bans in place and have also banned certain types of aerial fireworks.
