SPRINGFIELD, Pa. (KYW Newsradio) — The man accused of fatally shooting a driver in Delaware County over a road rage incident has been charged with murder.
Officials identified him as 22-year-old Saddiq Washington. Authorities were able to arrest him at his home in Darby Borough Thursday night because of tips from the public and a business surveillance camera that captured his license plate.
Police said Wednesday morning on State Road in Springfield, 54-year-old King Hua was driving slower than the rest of traffic. Washington’s mother was driving a dark-colored Chevy Equinox and passed Hua on the shoulder, officials said, and a male passenger — Washington — fired shots at Hua’s car.
“He is the gentleman who jumped from the vehicle,” Delaware County District Attorney Jack Stollsteimer said at a Friday morning press conference. “[He] leaned out the passenger window and shot and killed poor Mr. Hua.”
A bullet through the windshield struck Hua, causing him to lose control of the car and crash between Buttonwood Drive and Meetinghouse Lane.
He died at the hospital a short time later. His wife, who was in the passenger seat, survived.
Authorities said Washington legally bought the 9-mm gun used in the shooting, and he recently got a concealed carry permit. He has no criminal record.
Washington faces charges of criminal homicide, first- and third-degree murder, and recklessly endangering another person.
At this point, Washington’s mother has not been charged but police say they are still investigating her possible involvement.
