GENESEE TWP., MI – Four people were injured during a fire at an apartment complex in Genesee Township early Friday morning.
Fire crews responded around 5 a.m. Friday, July 1 to Bristol Court Apartments off North Saginaw Road. Upon arriving at the scene, crews saw flames through the roof of the complex, according to Mt. Morris Fire Chief James Young.
The city of Mt. Morris Fire Department handled the fire because the city contracts to provide fire coverage to part of Genesee Township, Young said.
Three residents had to be treated for injuries after jumping from balconies to escape the fire, Young said. A firefighter was also treated after sustaining burns from the fire.
Residents from all 16 apartments were displaced because of the fire, Young said.
The cause and origin of the fire will be determined by the Genesee Township Fire Department and Michigan State Police, Young said. State police investigators were at the scene hours after the fire.
Mt. Morris Township firefighters received mutual aid from crews with the Flushing Fire Department, Clio Area Fire Authority, Genesee Township Fire Department, Mt. Morris Township Fire Department, Swartz Creek Area Fire Department, Forest Township Fire Department, Flint Fire Department, Davison-Richfield Fire Department and Burton Fire Department.
Genesee Township and Mt. Morris Township police officers also assisted at the scene, along with STAT EMS and MMR.
