Cottage Grove, Tenn.–The 47th annual Cottage Grove Freedom Festival will be held Monday, July 4, complete with the grand parade, cake walk, games, the Firehouse International Kitchen, concessions, hay rides, and to top it all off–fireworks.

This year’s parade Grand Marshal will pay tribute to all veterans, with Willie Greer of Whitlock representing the veterans in the parade. Greer is the oldest WWII veteran in the Cottage Grove area.

The daylong event kicks off with a Turkey Shoot at the corner of Hayes Road and Highway 140 at 9 a.m. and the Grand Parade at 10 a.m..  Parade prizes will be given for Best of Parade, Best Float, Best Golf Cart, and Most Patriotic.

From 10:30 to 12:30 p.m., game booths will be open, as will the Firehouse International Kitchen, concessions, Hay Rides, Cake Walks and a new BB Shoot as well as the country store.

At 1 p.m., kids 2-12 can participate in a new event, the Treasure Island Money Hunt.

The afternoon will be filled with an Auction, Tug-O-War contest for four- man teams.  Karaoke Contest, Corn Hole Tournament and the always popular bingo from 3-5 p.m..  The Henry County band “Lady and Gents” will perform from 6 to 9.

A 50/50 cash drawing and a drawing for a Yeti cooler will take place at 8:45.

Everything wraps up with the best Fireworks display around, at 9 p.m. With the weather being as dry as it has been, fire officials said water tanker trucks will on site (as they always are).
