BELLINGHAM, Wash. – A jury has found a Bellingham woman guilty of homicide by abuse in the death of her boyfriend’s three-year-old daughter.

Kamee Nicole Dixon claimed the girl, Hazel Homan, had choked on some food when she was taken to the hospital on November 27th, 2019.

But doctors determined Hazel had injuries consistent with being violently shaken and they were determined to have occurred while Dixon was caring for her.

The girl also showed signs of earlier abuse and had been treated for a burned hand just a month before.

Prosecutors charged Dixon with 2nd degree murder along with the homicide charge, but the jury deadlocked on the murder count.

The verdict comes at the end of a three month trial, the longest criminal trial in Whatcom Superior Court history.

The Whatcom County Prosecuting Attorney says a sentencing date hasn’t been set.
