WALTON COUNTY, Fla. -- A 47-year-old Santa Rosa Beach man was killed in a bicycle crash Thursday night.
It happened around 11:20 p.m. on US Highway 98, east of Don Bishop Road.
The man was in the right turn lane on his bike as a Jeep utility was approaching the bicycle in the same turn lane.
"The Jeep's front left end collided with the bicyclist causing the bicyclist to become airborne and fall in the middle of the westbound US Highway 98 travel lanes," Florida Highway Patrol states. "The Jeep failed to remain on scene and was located at an address in south Walton County shortly after."
FHP states the bicyclist died from his injuries despite aid rendered by multiple citizens. The bicyclist was not wearing a helmet, but did have a forward facing headlight.
The investigation is ongoing.
