The superintendent of the Walled Lake Consolidated School District is leaving to become deputy superintendent for Oakland Schools.
Oakland Schools is the intermediate district representing all schools countywide.
Superintendent Kenneth Gutman posted on Walled Lake’s website that he will leave the district in late July with “mixed emotions.”
“It has been a sincere honor to have served you and our children and, for that and so much
more, I am grateful,” he said.
The Walled Lake Board of Education appointed Deputy Superintendent Michael Lonze as interim superintendent until a permanent leader is chosen, effective Aug. 1.
The board hired the Michigan Association of School Boards to assist with the superintendent search.
Walled Lake is collecting feedback on the desired qualities in the next superintendent. Parents and the community can participate in stakeholder input meetings as follows:
- 6 p.m. July 7 via Zoom
- 10 a.m. July 12 via Zoom
- 2 p.m. July 12 via Zoom
- 3 p.m. July 13 at the Educational Services Center, 850 Ladd Road, Building D, Walled Lake.
