One home that’s up for sale comes with lots of history.
You won’t find any for sale signs at the home.
Standing on the ground, you may never know what’s beneath.
But take a peek inside these metal doors.
At one point in time, not just any person would be allowed down under.
The 2,500 square feet underground home used to be a missile site.
“At the time they were in operation they were one of the sharpest arrows in the military quiver," said Nick Batter, a corporate counsel for Hawkins Construction in Omaha.
Serving as a National Defense in the event of an emergency.
“These sites were built with nuclear weapons and the whole idea was to never use them, because contemplating their use was kind of nightmare-ish and they were here to hopefully prevent a war," said Robert Branting, author of “A Mighty Force for Peace: A History of the Former Lincoln Air Force Base”.
According to historians, York isn’t the only place in Nebraska you can find these decommissioned Atlas F missile facilities.
“They ultimately put 15 bases in Nebraska, so one out in the panhandle, but with the exception that one base that was associated with the military base in Wyoming. York was the farthest west of all of them are in eastern Nebraska," said Batter.
“By April 1965, all of these sites were closed down, and very shortly thereafter, being sold off to private individuals," said Branting.
Just like history, you have to dive deep to get a better picture, or in this case, walk down a few flights of stairs to get to the best part.
This unusual home could be yours for $550,000. One thing’s for sure, you won’t have to worry about being bothered by your neighbors.
