Police in central Pennsylvania increase patrols, sobriety checkpoints for July Fourth holiday weekend
SOME COUNTIES INCREASED PATROLS EARLIER THIS WEEK BUT MANY ARE DEFINITELY STARTING TODAY SINCE IT IS THE BEGINNING OF THE HOLIDAY WEEKEND. WE’VE ALREADY CONFIRMED THAT DAUPHIN, ADAMS, LANCASTER AND YORK COUNTIES HAVE ALREADY BEGUN THOSE INCREASED CHECKPOINTS. THOSE CHECKPOINTS ARE USED BY POLICE TO FIND IMPAIRED DRIVERS, GET THEM OFF THE ROAD WHILE ALSO DISCOURAGING OTHERS FROM DRIVING IMPAIRED. IN YORK COUNTY THE KAIN MEMORIAL, WHICH HONORS INNOCENT VICTIMS WHO LOST THEIR LIVES DUE TO ALCOHOL OR DRUG RELATED CRASHES, HAS A MESSAGE FOR THOSE WHO CHOOSE TO DRINK THIS WEEKEND. >> FIRST OF ALL, PLAN AHEAD. IF YOU DON’T PLAN AHEAD, ENFORCEMENT IS GOING TO BE OUT THERE AND THEY ARE GOING TO BE READY FOR YOU. THE THIRD THING UNFORTUNATELY IF YOU HAVE A BAD CONSEQUENCE OF YOUR DECISION, YOU COULD VERY WELL PUT AN INSTANT LIFE ON THE KAINE MEMORIAL. >> LAW ENFORCEMENT RECOMMENDS TO PLAN A SAFE RIDE HOME IF YOU PLAN TO DRINK USING A RIDE-SHARE SERVICE OR HAVE A DESIGNATED DRIVER AND IF YOU’RE HOSTING A PARTY, MAKE SURE ALL OF YOUR GUESTS LEAVE WITH A SOBER DRIVER
