One Louisville restaurant has some of the best fried chicken in the US, according to Eater

Louisville has dozens of restaurants that offer fried chicken, and more than 20 KFCs around town to go with them. But just one of them, according to a national food and dining publication, is among the best in the country.

Chik'n & Mi was selected by Eater among the best restaurants in the country that serve fried chicken, according to its article "The Best Fried Chicken in America" published on Wednesday.

"The broad menu of comfort foods from across Asia at Chik’n & Mi includes everything from wood ear mushroom egg rolls to chicken noodle soup ramen, but the star of the show is the fried chicken, battered in rice and tapioca flour," wrote Lennie Omalza, a Louisville-based writer who frequently contributes to The Courier Journal.

According to the article, the restaurants were picked by different Eater editors and writers from around the country. The restaurants were not ranked but were split up by region, with Chik'n & Mi joined in the South region by several restaurants in Louisiana, Tennessee, Mississippi, Texas, Alabama and the Carolinas.

Chik'n & Mi, at 1765 Mellwood Avenue in Louisville's Butchertown neighborhood, opened in 2017. The restaurant, from owners Jason McCollum and Aenith Sananikone-McCollum, specializes "in making Asian inspired comfort foods," according to their website, with a bar that serves sake and other drinks from the region.

The restaurant is open between 4 p.m. and 9 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and from 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Friday and Saturday, with brunches Saturday and Sunday between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

Some of the other chicken-including dishes served at Chik'n & Mi include a fried chicken sandwich, which comes on a brioche bum with kimchi slaw, black garlic aioli and pickled cucumbers. The restaurant also offers a special "Asian Fried FreeBird Chicken" menu, giving customers a choice of chicken tossed in a variety of sauces. Chicken and waffles, a chicken and egg sandwich and a "chicken benedict" dish are on the restaurant's lunch menu.

This isn't the first positive review Chik'n & Mi has received since it opened. The spot was named Louisville's Best New Restaurant of 2017, according to Thrillist, and they were also picked by Big 7 Travel as one of the 50 Best Places for Chicken Wings in the USA in 2020 — they were placed at number 17.
