Burlington, IA-  Local authorities are urging residents to practice safety around fireworks ahead of the Fourth of July Holiday.

The Hawk Eye reports that it is illegal to set off consumer-grade fireworks inside Burlington city limits without a permit.  Doing so could result in a citation and a minimum $300 fine.

Consumer-grade fireworks can only be set off in West Burlington if it’s done 50 feet away from any residential buildings, and it is illegal to do so in a business district.

Anyone caught doing so could face a $500 fine and possible jail time.
