Another pitch for Yankees-Phillies trade in wake of Bryce Harper injury

New York Yankees outfielder Joey Gallo is a potential trade target for the Philadelphia Phillies.

The New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies might soon do business with each other.

With Bryce Harper out after having surgery on a broken thumb, the Phillies are in the market for an outfielder.

It just so happens that the Yankees may be trying to get rid of one: Joey Gallo.

MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki listed Gallo as a possible trade target for the Phillies:

“Gallo, who hits left-handed, is having a poor year with the Yankees ... but he could benefit from a change of scenery. He has tons of raw power and has won a couple Gold Gloves in the outfield. He will be a free agent after the season.”

WIP’s Joe Giglio also thinks a Phillies trade for Gallo is a possibility:

“How about an option that fits the ‘buy low, sell high’ mantra? There’s no player with a track record lower than Gallo ... right now. His fit in New York has been a disaster, and will likely soon follow the Javier Vazquez/Sonny Gray Express (talented players that failed miserably with the Yankees, but found success again when leaving) out of New York. If the Yankees are looking to dump Gallo for anything they can get before the trade deadline, the Phillies would be smart to look into it. Gallo’s light-tower power is real, and he comes with the ability to play center field. Worst case, it’s a flier on a guy that’s about to be a free agent. Best case? Gallo turns his career back around, and the Phillies can add huge power to both replace and pair with Harper as the season progresses.”

Gallo went 0-for-2 with a strikeout and a walk in Thursday’s 2-1 loss to the Houston Astros. He’s hitting .165 this season with 85 strikeouts in 63 games.
