About 1:15 a.m., an emergency dispatcher told officers that a citizen near the 3500 block of Pine Street in Eureka reported “shots fired from that location, followed by subjects screaming, and a vehicle leaving at a high rate of speed.”

Shortly afterward, the dispatcher relayed to officers that a second caller was reporting that a man [Update: the person may have been a teenager] had shot out the rear window of a vehicle and fled in the passenger seat of another vehicle while a female was in the drivers seat.

According to an officer who responded to the scene speaking over the scanner, the vehicle was occupied at the time of the shooting but no one was injured. He said he believed the weapon used to shoot out the window was a shotgun.

Please remember that information gathered from initial reports is subject to revision as more facts become available. We’ve requested more information from the Eureka Police Department.

UPDATE 9:16 a.m.: According to Brittany Powell, spokesperson for the Eureka Police Department, “This incident occurred on July 1, 2022 at about 1:15 a.m.  Officers responded to the 3500 block of Pine Street after callers reported that a vehicle window had just been shot out while the vehicle was parked.  Based on the investigation and witness statements, it appears this incident occurred between a group of teenagers (mostly juveniles) known to each other.  We believe the vehicle was occupied by at least one person when hit, though nobody was struck or injured.  EPD detectives have suspect leads and the investigation is ongoing and active.”

Well, let’s look at the facts. No mention of race of the individuals involved, and yet you made a comment regarding Compton. An obvious race-baiting comment. We all know that here in Eureka, there is no limit on the types of people that would commit such an act.

Your assumption that the comparison is about race shows that you are the racist. When you point your finger there are three pointing back at you. Congratulations.

a great concept in the novel Dune comes to mind, paraphrasing, ” a general garb is displayed, and you claim it tailored to your fit.”

What does Compton have too do with race? I thought it was a city in southern California.

I played a lot of poker at house games in Compton back in the 70s. Compton was a hot bed for really good athletes. Compton Junior College won the junior Rose Bowl when I was a kid.

Some movies presented Compton as a city dominated by black gangsters but that is certainly not true (anymore, at least) since Compton is now only about 22% black.

…my point was in regard to drive by shootings, a common occurrence in Compton. So there “is no limit to the types of people who commit these acts in Eureka”? Really? Good people don’t commit these acts!

Don’t know history of Compton but it probably wasn’t founded on mass murder like Eureka..

By the time Compton was “founded”,the indigenous tribes had been removed, enslaved , forced relocated AND mass murdered by the then Mexican grantees, mostly from Spain for almost 100 years.

I was sort of addicted to going on ride alongs with with the LA Sheriffs dept in 1976 and 77 in Watts and Compton and any violence filled unincorporated city they patrolled. Most unincorporated cities could not afford 2 officers per car and do I got to ride up front. Due to being in a city that could afford 2 cops I was once left on the street at 3am with the patrol cars 12 gauge until after a 1/2 hour another car came for me. I once jumped out of car and chased an armed fellow into the Nickerson Gardens projects, again a few hours after midnight. No patrol car would venture inside there after dark, and when they drove by both cops would have their service pistols out on their laps. Then I met my wife and gave up that source of adrenaline fueled excitement. A little note. Back then you were only allowed 1 ride along per month, but I realized fairly quickly that they kept no track outside each station and do sometimes I went 5 or 6 times a month, especially in the summer when uninsulated apartment houses without AC left people resorting to beer to stay cool and were apt to be outside all night. Because I was pretty sure I was invulnerable the officers got to know me and argued over who got me over newbie rank amateur riders. Also I always went at around sunset and sometimes rode until dawn.

I was not in Watts and Compton at that time, but I was in Crenshaw then. It was really scary at night. Rent was cheap!

We should consider carefully the mind of someone purchasing “guns”. I absolutely agree. Buying a gun should be more like buying a car and less like buying a pack of cigarettes.

We already do in California. To purchase a handgun you must pass your handgun safety certificate test ($25), wait for it to be processed (a week or more), then return to a store and pass a background check ($32? Can’t remember) and then wait a compulsory ten day period to pick up said firearm.

We already have enough firearm purchasing safety protocols in place. And guess what? It’s not law abiding people like myself that you have to worry about.

Is there a curfew for juveniles? Shouldn’t parents be responsible for their children’s behavior (misbehavior)?

We moved here in February 2017 to Manila and the very first time I read comments online of local news there was a story about some unnamed neighbors of mine that were shooting shotguns. And the comments were very blasé about it and there were comments along the lines of “ oh, they just shoot to intimidate each other, no problem”. We were a little taken aback. We had been living in Mexico before that and while where we lived had a really big Army presence and we saw literally hundreds of FN FAL rifles and many M-60s everyday we never heard of anyone being shot. And definitely no neighbors shooting over each other’s properties. All’s well that ends well, or at least takes a break, as we have not heard of such things here in about 4 years.

The price of tea in China is dependent on a variety of factors. However, the standard range for a 500-gram tea is from CYN 70 ($10) to CYN 7059 ($1000). The most expensive teas in China can even reach up to $2.8 million!

Lots of accusations of racism, but really, folks, Compton is notorious, based on statistics, for criminality. Eureka is nowhere near that level of violence. So go ahead, scream and call me racist, that’s how you win arguments, right?

it’s certainly how the select are able to put a given commenter on moderation.
it’s all the more pathetic tho, when verifiable historical record is the basis for the “racist” claim.
truth scares the hell out of gatekeepers and the secret masters of fandom.

Great quote! Vaclav Havel was an intelligent, free thinker. I remember when he appointed Frank Zappa as Special Ambassador to the West on Trade, Culture and Tourism. Unfortunately the US government pressured Havel to stop this relationship and work directly with them….so…yeah
