Ray Bishop, age 48, of Gatesville, went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, June 25, 2022. It is with profound sadness that the family announces his peaceful passing.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 2, 2022, at Scott’s Funeral Home in Gatesville, with Rev. Garland Baker and Rev. Kurt Fuessel officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery.

Ray Ellis Bishop was born on Nov. 26, 1973, in Gatesville. He was a 1992 graduate of Gatesville High School, where he was class president and later, a 1997 graduate of Texas A&M University. After college, he taught biology and coached girls sports for five years at Austin ISD and 17 years for Galena Park ISD. Ray loved sports, coaching, people and life. All of these were inseparable to him. He was passionate about his students and athletes and was fiercely competitive. Those who knew him recognized his loud laugh, great smile and compassionate heart. Growing up in Gatesville, Ray was active in Mountain Baptist Church with the kids and youth group where he often sang. He played all sports in high school as well as in the band. He enjoyed playing competitive softball with friends as an adult.

He was preceded in death by his father, Richard Bishop, grandparents Edgar and Jewel Bishop and Happy and Bert Hendrick.

Ray will be lovingly remembered by his mother, Mary Bishop; brother, Barry Bishop and wife, Karen; sister, Anne Mayberry; uncle, James Hendrick; six nephews and niece, Abigail, Reuben, John, Gideon, Micah, and Benjamin; cousins, Kelly Riley, Les Bishop, Karen Hammond, Jason Bishop, Tony Lanagan, Todd Bishop and Johnathan Kellis; and many friends from Houston, Austin and Gatesville.
