We’re all familiar with LEGO and its products. But what we might not be aware of, is the fact that the LEGO Group is set to start building a 1.7 million-square-foot production facility located near Richmond in Chesterfield, Virginia.

This is part of LEGO’s investment of $1 billion into the US factory in hopes of shortening their supply chains and better facilitating the demand for their products.

But while the new factory will be good for customers, it will also be good for the community. The company has shared that this new factory will create more than 1,761 jobs across a variety of professional and production positions.

Additionally, the factory will be powered by renewable energy that is created right on-site through the company’s own solar park.

As the LEGO Group’s CEO, Niels B. Christiansen, shared in a statement:

“We were impressed with all that Virginia has to offer, from access to a skilled workforce, support for high-quality manufacturers, and great transport links. We appreciate support for our ambition to build a carbon-neutral run facility and construct a solar park and are looking forward to building a great team with support from the Virginia Talent Accelerator Program.”

The governor, Glenn Youngkin, further added, “The LEGO Group’s decision to establish its U.S. manufacturing plant in Virginia shines a global spotlight on the advantages that make the Commonwealth the best business location in the nation, and we look forward to a long and successful partnership with this iconic company.”

With the news of the new factory, it will make it the second LEGO factory to come to North America, and will bring up the factory total to seven across the globe.

But just because the Danish company is investing in a new factory doesn’t mean that it will be operational straight away. It is scheduled to be up and running come the second half of 2025. That is still a little ways down the line.

Currently, LEGO employs about 2,600 in the US across its 100 stores.
