Longtime Mount Shasta resident, Veronica Ann Nurmi, passed away on June 24, 2022 at her home after a brief battle with cancer. She was 70 years old.

Veronica was born on June 19, 1952 in Bakersfield, California to James and Nellie Murphy. Veronica married Jim Nurmi in 1976. Jim and Veronica moved to Mt. Shasta in 1989.

Veronica worked for many years as a professional machine quilter, but she also spent time as a yoga instructor, school volunteer, and a hospice volunteer. She enjoyed being outside in nature. Her favorite pastime was gardening, and she especially lover her hostas, sunflowers, and the birds that visited her garden. Veronica always loved being by the ocean and walking on the beach.

Veronica is survived by her loving husband, Jim Nurmi of Mount Shasta; her son Josh and his wife Colin and their children Connor and Ethan of Sacramento; her son John and his wife Francesca and their children Bennett and Marcus of Sacramento; and four siblings, James Murphy of Bakersfield, Michael Murphy of Bakersfield, Anthony Murphy of Santa Maria, and Mary Murphy of Fresno.

The Nurmi Family would like to thank Mercy Hospice of Mount Shasta for their care, compassion, and support in the recent months, as well as all of her friends that supported her.
