News From Britt Hill – July 2022

It’s easy to forget that the Britt Music & Arts Festival is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. On concert nights, the thriving energy looks like any other major concert venue, and we’re proud of our professionalism. At the same time, our mission is to create a sense of discovery and community through diverse live performances, an incomparable orchestra season, and dynamic education programs, all inspired by our intimate and scenic hillside venue. This mission is the heart of what we do, and the soul of it is discovery and community. That means you.

By the time you’re reading this, I will have been on the job for two months, and I’m already learning so much about what this community values about Britt. You’ve told me that you love the energy of the shows, the vibrancy of the orchestra, and the thousands of children we serve with our awesome (and free!) BrittKids Koncerts and Klub. You’ve mentioned how much you love spending time in the public park we maintain all year round—and an enormous number of you have celebrated how beautiful the park looks this year, thanks to our Facilities Manager, Steve Killen! You’ve also shared challenges, like traffic, parking, and the hiccups that can happen when an extra 2,200 people appear in town on a beautiful summer night.

I appreciate hearing both the joys and challenges of being in community with Britt. You’re helping me to shape a vision for our next chapter.

Over the summer and early fall I’ll be combining your feedback with my own observations. I’ll work with Britt’s extraordinary Board of Directors and staff to form a vision and plan. In the winter months, you’ll hear more about how our mission and vision will drive us forward.

We are thinking about access, equity, and serving the broadest possible community while removing barriers. As an arts organization, we play a major role in sparking imagination and creative thinking, making space for transformative experiences and rich conversations. We feel a deep sense of responsibility to the land we are stewarding, the people who have loved it for centuries, and the children who will love it for generations to come.

Discovery and Community. That is the driving force of who we are and what we do. I can’t wait to see where we go together. Oh, and don’t forget to join us at a concert this summer! There are so many fabulous shows coming up, and I’d love to see you!

All best, Abby
