MEDFORD, Ore. -- July 4th holiday travelers could experience construction-related delays on several southwest Oregon highways.
While Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) plans to open as many lanes as possible for the holiday weekend, it says some lane restrictions will stay in effect.
They include Interstate 5 between Ashland and California where traffic remains in a single lane in each direction between Mileposts 6.5 and 9.5 as a contractor finishes road work. ODOT says, "Drivers should anticipate short delays traveling through the work zone. Drivers will be able to see any delays on Tripcheck using Smart Work Zone technology. Look for the stopwatches that tell of travel delays in the corridor.
Other locations include a single lane for both directions, such as:
• Oregon Highway 140 bridges east of White City where bridge work limits the road to a single lane of traffic controlled by temporary signals at two locations.
• U.S. 101 traffic is limited to a single lane at Tahkenitch Creek, 10 miles north of Reedsport.
• Oregon Highway 38 traffic also is limited to a single lane in Scottsburg due to bridge construction where congestion and delays at both locations are possible during peak travel times.
ODOT says drivers should allow extra time or plan to travel outside peak hours on those highways.
