A Campbell’s Soup plant in Maxton received its fourth bomb threat in two months, according to Campbell's Soup Spokesperson Beth Jolly.
The Robeson County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the series of threats and trying to figure out who is making them. At around 10:30 p.m. Wednesday night, the plant’s security answered a phone call and the person on the other side of the call threatened the plant with a bomb, according to officials.
One plant employee, who wanted to remain anonymous, said they want more security at the plant.
"We need security boosted up. We don’t have any. We need metal detectors. We need somebody in there probably armed," they said.
Following the threat, Robeson County deputies and ATF officials arrived at the scene and evacuated everyone inside.
However, even though no threat was found inside and the plant was cleared open the next morning, the Campbell’s Soup employee said they don’t feel safe there.
"Looking at everything now, being more aware, now you just don’t know who to trust anyone anymore," they said.
Jolly said that more security measures are taking place now and will continue after the Fourth of July weekend.
"Our employees are concerned and nervous, but we’re working to reassure them with- about their safety and about the security measure that we are putting in place.," she said.
Other bomb threats were made against the plant last Saturday, and one threat was even found on a bathroom stall inside of the plant.
The investigation continues as authorities are still looking for who could be behind the threats. If anyone has information about these bomb threats, people can anonymously call the Robeson County Sheriff's Office.
