The El Paso United Way on Thursday announced that it will be offering rental and utility assistance to El Paso County residents who live in rural areas outside city limits.
El Paso County and the United Way partnered with A.Y.U.D.A, a non-profit bilingual organization, to help find members of the community in the colonias who would benefit from the assistance but may not have access to resources to get help.
"Our place in ayuda is to find these people that really needs the transportation, the communication, to be able to access these funds," said Miguel Chacon, housing program services coordinator at A.Y.U.D.A.
Chacon said the initial goal is to find 244 applicants to help. So far 15 applications have been submitted in the last month.
El Paso County Judge Ricardo Samaniego said money to fund the assistance is coming from the general fund and the government
"Anything related to the pandemic, we've got a special fund you know from the government that we can utilize for that," said Samaniego.
