Two cars damaged, garage destroyed after blaze in Dedham

DEDHAM, Mass. — A fire in the garage of a Dedham home destroyed two cars Thursday evening, according to officials.

Authorities responded to 59 Cleveland Street around 7:00 p.m. for a report of a large garage fire, according to Fire Chief William Spillane.

The flames were mostly contained to the garage, with a damage on the 2nd floor of the house and exterior damage in the back.

Fire officials suspect one of the cars parked inside caught fire and set the garage ablaze.

All the residents made it out of the house safely.

Because the doors of the garage were down, firefighters had to use extrication tools to get at the flames, Chief Spillane said.

The garage is a total loss as well as one of the cars that was parked inside. A second car parked inside also suffered heavy damage.

Chief Spillane says the residents of the house will be displaced for about a day while crews survey the damage.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
