Crews showed up to the home of a 93-year-old woman whose property was a code violation, with tall grass and overgrown vegetation.

“Beautiful job, wonderful job,” said homeowner Rachel Bettis. “I couldn’t do this.”

Unlike most code violations, Bettis’ neglected yard was hardly the result of a negligent homeowner.

“I wish I could go out and join them,” said Bettis. “But I can’t do any of this.”

The Code Cares Initiative is one of the first in metro Atlanta, helping senior and elderly property owners.

In just a few hours, what could have been described as a jungle was transformed into a peaceful sanctuary.

“We were more excited than she was about the impact we could make,” said Brian Morris, South Fulton Code Enforcement. “Typically when we knock on someone’s door, we are not viewed receptively.”
