Wadley holds fireworks July 4

The City of Wadley will host a celebration for America's birthday Monday, July 4, The city announced the fireworks and other activities will be held at Wadley's football field. The plan is for this to become an annual event.

Wadley Mayor Harold Moore said Chris Mincey came to the city about two years ago and asked permission to hold a fireworks display for July 4. 

"We partnered with him. It was his idea," Moore said. The response was "overwhelming;" and, there was a "huge response."

Moore pointed out there are people in Wadley who can't travel to Louisville for the fireworks there. He said it was decided to do this event for the community.

Besides fireworks, there will be free rides for kids from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m., live entertainment, vendors and a backyard barbecue contest. Prizes will be awarded for best butts, ribs and chicken. An entry fee for the contest is required.
