Child struck by lightning on Florida boat ramp identified as 11-year-old
Family friends have identified the child struck by lightning Thursday near a boat ramp in Riverview, according to WESH sister station WFLA.Fire/EMT units were called to the boat ramp at Williams Park about the injured child, who was taken to the hospital in critical condition.Daniel Butson, the lead pastor at FishHawk Fellowship Church, identified the boy who was struck as 11-year-old Levi Stock. Butson said Stock's vitals are good but doctors say the next 24 to 48 hours are critical.The boy suffered "immense pain" from the strike, he added.Butson says the family is unsure of what will happen next. Witness Debbie Daniels told Fox 13 that the whole thing happened extremely fast. She saw a flash of lightning over the water and a woman started screaming for help."There was somebody sitting straddling him and pushing and pushing and pushing and trying to get his heart started," Daniels said. "And I hit my knees and started praying and crying and oh, my god, it was terrible."Daniels said it wasn't even raining when the lightning struck.According to the Lightning Safety Council, 11 people were struck by lightning in Florida alone in 2021. On average, 25 people are stuck by lightning in Florida every year.
