The Detroit Pistons’ first move after the start of free agency Thursday was to re-sign one of their own.
The Pistons agreed to terms with Marvin Bagley III on a three-year, $37 million contract, a source close to the situation confirmed to MLive.
Bagley, the second overall pick in 2018, averaged 14.6 points and 6.8 rebounds in 18 games with Detroit, starting eight, after being acquired from Sacramento on Feb. 10 in a four-team trade that sent Josh Jackson and Trey Lyles to the Kings and a pair of second-round picks to Milwaukee.
The Pistons made a $7.8 million qualifying offer to the restricted free agent this week to retain his rights.
The 6-11, 235-pound center/power forward will be part of a roster that includes big men Isaiah Stewart, Kelly Olynyk, Nerlens Noel and Jalen Duren, the 13th pick this year whom Detroit acquired in a draft night deal with the Knicks.
The signing was first reported by Chris Haynes of Yahoo! Sports.
