Nearly 30,000 people are expected to take part in the 54th annual Lumbee Homecoming in Pembroke, according to officials with the Lumbee Regional Development Association (LRDA).
Officials said about 35,000 people attended last year's nine-day festival.
It takes place this year from June 24 to July 2.
The Lumbee Homecoming is the largest parade in Eastern North Carolina.
The LRDA's website states, "Lumbee Homecoming has grown over the years to become the largest cultural celebration of certainly any tribe east of the Mississippi River, and the largest ethnic heritage celebration/party in North Carolina."
LRDA gives a lot of credit to the Town of Pembroke and the University of North Carolina Pembroke for hosting the event and in making the homecoming a success every year.
Some of the highlights of the annual event include the parade, Pow Wow, car show, music, arts and entertainment and the Teen and Miss Lumbee Pageant.
The Lumbee Homecoming website adds, "Lumbee Homecoming has played a significant role in our people’s renaissance of pride and tribal identity renewal across our communities, in our state, and even the nation."
