BAKERSFIELD, Calif. (KBAK/FOX58) — An apartment in a Downtown Bakersfield exploded due to a possible gas leak Thursday causing several injuries, according a Bakersfield Fire Department official.
At approximately 2:02 p.m. a second-floor apartment exploded on the south side of the building, according to BFD. The cause is under investigation but an official said it was caused by a possible gas leak.
At least two people suffered moderate to major injuries.
Building maintenance and arson investigators are on scene. All utilities were shut off after the explosion. No further gas leaks were found by BFD.
