Driver caught with over 200 pounds of illegal fireworks in Merced

MERCED, Calif. (FOX26) — A driver is facing several pending charges after officers say they were caught with a large number of illegal fireworks packed in their car in Merced.

According to CHP Merced, an officer pulled over a driver after they were seen traveling a bit too close to other drivers and for having an obstructed view.

When the officer walked up to the Mercedes sedan, they spotted, in plain view, a hefty number of illegal fireworks that were crammed in the backseat. They also found fireworks packed in the truck as well.

According to investigators, about 234 pounds of fireworks were recovered from the driver, who was not identified.

Now, CHP says the driver could face charges after they were caught with the illegal fireworks.
