On June 25, 2022, Jane Doe called 911 to report that her husband, 45-year-old Allen Goddard, had assaulted her earlier in the day and was presently gathering all his firearms after she told him to leave their house. Missoula Police Department Officers responded to Doe’s residence on Ernest Avenue. Police Public Information Officer Lydia Arnold explains.

“Officers responded to a domestic disturbance involving an adult victim and a juvenile victim,” Arnold said. “During the preliminary investigation, officers learned of physical contact to the juvenile and adult resulting in fear and injury. Further investigation indicated the adult victim attempted to get Goddard to leave the residence, but Goddard refused to leave and started to pack a bag of firearms.”

Goddard, Doe, her son, and her nephew left Missoula for a car trip to Washington. Doe stated that Goddard was so upset, that he did not say a single word during their trip until he requested snacks from Doe’s son. After Doe’s son failed to provide Goddard with snacks, he turned around and yelled “give me the (expletive) cookies.”

Doe’s son provided Goddard with the cookies shortly thereafter. Goddard then turned around and punched Doe’s son in the side of the face, with a closed fist. Court documents indicate this assault occurred just outside of Ellensburg, Washington, in the Columbia River Gorge.

After Goddard punched Doe’s son, they turned around and drove back to Missoula. When they returned to the residence, Doe told Goddard to pack a bag and that he needed to leave, but Goddard refused. Goddard went to his room and started to pack his bag full of ammunition and gathered his firearms.

“At one point during the disturbance, an automatic rifle was pointed directly at the victim, causing them to feel they were about to be killed,” Arnold said. “The victim ran from the residence and called 911, which resulted in MPD SWAT Team being called out to the scene. Goddard was not located initially, but after a wanted person was put out for him, Goddard turned himself in to police custody.”

Doe stated that Goddard picked up Doe’s AR-15 rifle and pointed it at her while talking. Doe stated that she always keeps her AR-15 unloaded in the closet but she did not know whether it was loaded at that time or not. Doe stated that Goddard pointed the gun directly toward her for “at least 20 seconds” before he lowered the gun. Doe indicated the muzzle was pointed directly at her body and she thought Goddard was going to kill her.

Goddard is currently being charged with one count of felony assault with a weapon.
