Missing Kansas man found in Benton area

TEXARKANA, Texas (KTAL/KMSS) – The Kansas Bureau of Investigation says the missing Kansas man was found in the Benton area.

According to the bureau, the Butler County Sheriff’s Office reported that 71-year-old Joseph Hayes of Towanda, Kansas was found safe around 4:30 p.m. Friday near Benton, Arkansas. Hayes was found after a citizen spotted him.

Hayes was taken to the hospital to be evaluated but is expected to be reunited with his family soon.

Texarkana, Texas police said Hayes was last seen leaving his house in Towanda, Kansas on June 20 to head towards Anniston, Alabama. Hayes’ family says he talked to them on the phone after he somehow got turned around in Fort Worth, Texas.

The family suggested that he head back to Kansas but the family says he did not do that.

Police say traffic cameras read his Kansas license plate number on I-35 near San Antonio a few days ago. However, Hayes’ cell phone was since been pinged in the New Boston area and on Hwy 8 towards DeQueen, Arkansas.
