Cocoa Packs facility breaks ground
STUDENT BODY AND COMMUNITY ALL ABOUT IT. COCOA PACKS A GROUP THAT HELPS CHILDREN WITH FOOD INSECURITY HELD A GROUNDBREAKING ON A NEW FACILITY TODAY. THE HERSHEY BASED GROUP IS BUILDING THE NEW 20,000 SQUARE FOOT FACILITY ON MAIN STREET IN HUMMELSTOWN THE GOLDEN NEW BUILDING HOUSE OLE OF COCOA PACKS OPERATIONS, INCLUDING STORAGE ASSEMBLY AND DISTRIBUTION IN ONE LOCATION. COCOA PACKS HAS BEEN OUTDOORS SINCE 2020 FUNDING FOR THE PROJECT CAME THROUGH ITS CAPITAL CAMPAIGN, WHICH MOVED INTO ITS PUBLIC. TODAY TO HAVE A SPACE WHERE EVERYONE IS SAFE WHERE OUR HANDICAP FRIENDS HAVE ACCESS IN THE WAY THAT THEY NEED IT TO BE AND TO BE ABLE TO EXPOSE CHILDREN TO A MYRIAD OF EDUCATIONAL OFFERING ALL THE DIFFERENT SERVICES ARE IN ONE SPOT AND IT’S A GAME CHANGER FOR US. Cocoa Packs facility breaks ground
Cocoa Packs, a nonprofit group that assists children with food insecurity, held a groundbreaking on a new facility Thursday afternoon. The Hershey-based group is building the new 20,000-foot facility on Main Street in Hummelstown, Dauphin County. The goal of the new facility is to house all of the Cocoa Packs operations including storage, assembly and distribution in one location. The new building will also have educational opportunities, including a teaching kitchen.Funding for the project is through its capital campaign, which moved into its public phase on Thursday. Christine Drexler, president and founder of Cocoa Packs, spoke about the importance of a new facility. "To have a space where everyone is safe, where our handicapped friends have access in the way that they need it to be and to be able to expose children to a myriad of educational offerings... All the different services are in one spot and it's a game-changer for us, it really is," Drexler said. Several groups have already announced financial support including The Hershey Company, Hershey Entertainment and Resorts, and Penn State Health.
