THE WGL NEWS 8 STORM TEAM FORECAST WITH CHIEF METEOROLOGIST. JOE CALHOUN. WELL HASN’T BEEN ALL THAT HOT SO FAR THIS SUMMER. IN FACT OUR HOTTEST DAY WAS THE END OF MAY. WE GOT TO 92 DEGREES WE COULD TOMORROW GET TO 94 THAT WOULD ACTUALLY BE THE HOTTEST WE’VE HAD SINCE LAST AUGUST 13TH OF LAST YEAR TONIGHT PRETTY CALM NOT QUITE AS FOOLISH AS WE’VE HAD THE LAST FEW NIGHTS BUT COMFORTABLE. IT’S NOT ALL THAT BAD OUT THERE 80 DEGREES STILL IF YOU RECALL THE LAST COUPLE OF NIGHTS MOST PLACES BY NOW WERE IN THE LOW 70S IN UPPER 60S THE DEW POINTS STILL NOT TOO UNCOMFORTABLE. IT’S AT 57 DEGREES FIFTIES. FEEL FINE. THAT’S ALWAYS WHAT I SAY TOMORROW YOU GET UP IN CARLISLE. YOU SEE SOME HAZY SUNSHINE CLOUDS MAY START TO COME IN AS WE GO THROUGH THE AFTERNOON A LITTLE IT WHAT’S HAPPENING? I THINK SOME THUNDERSHOWERS WILL FORM OVER THE MOUNTAINS AND THEY’LL TRY TO DRIFT EAST BUT THEY’LL PROBABLY START TO DIE OUT AS THEY COME FARTHER EAST. SO I’D FAVOR CARLISLE GETTING A THUNDER SHOWERS OPPOSED TO LET’S SAY LEBANON, YOU KNOW, THE FARTHER EAST YOU GO THE LESS CHANCE YOU HAVE OF THOSE STORMS, BUT TEMPERATURES ARE WARM WE SHOULD GET UP IN THE 80S OR 90S AND STILL BE IN THE 80S TOMORROW EVENING HERE THE NUMBERS RIGHT NOW MOSTLY 70S TO LOW 80S OUT THERE. THERE AND YOU PULL ON OUT THE WARM WEATHER AGAIN THAT THAT HEAT DOME IF YOU WILL IT’S STARTING TO EXPAND A LITTLE BIT TO THE EAST BUT DOESN’T LOOK LIKE WE’RE GOING TO GET ALL THAT HOT NOW THE HUMIDITY HAS BEEN OKAY. WE’VE BEEN FEELING THOSE 50 DEGREE DEW POINTS, BUT THEY’RE STARTING TO CREEP UP BECAUSE YOU SEE THE BIG CIRCULATION OFF THE COAST. YEAH THAT THIS TIME OF THE YEAR WE CALL THAT THE BERMUDA HIGH AND THAT’S GONNA START TO PUSH THIS MOISTURE FARTHER AND FARTHER AND FARTHER TO THE NORTH. THERE ARE TOURS AND THUNDER SHOWERS. NOTHING ORGANIZED WITH IT. THERE’S ALSO THIS LINE BACK HERE. WELL, TWO THINGS THAT ARE GOING TO AFFECT OUR WEATHER. IS THAT BERMUDA HIGH SLIPS AWAY. IT’S GOING TO KIND OF ERODE THIS BOUNDARY AND ALLOW THIS MOISTURE TO COME NORTH THAT FRONT IS GOING TO COME SOUTH THAT COULD CAUSE SOME THUNDERSTORMS ESPECIALLY AS WE GET INTO FRIDAY NIGHT AND SATURDAY SO HIGH SLIPS AWAY HERE COMES THAT SOUTHERLY FLOW OF AIR SUNNY START TO THE DAY, BUT THEN POP POP OVER PARTS OF THE MOUNTAINS. WE’LL START SEE THOSE THUNDER SHOWERS AND THEY’LL DRIFTIES DIE TOMORROW NIGHT, BUT AS THE FRONT COMES EAST WE COULD SEE SOME MORE SHOWERS AND STORMS. THE QUESTION IS DO WE GET SOME IN THE MORNING THEY KIND OF CALM THINGS DOWN. IF NOT, WE GET SOME MORE SUNSHINE WE COULD GET MORE. STORMS IN THE AFTERNOON, BUT I’D I’D FOCUS ON TWO ROUNDS MAYBE A LITTLE BIT IN THE MORNING AND THEN ANOTHER ROUND IN THE AFTERNOON AND THERE’S A CHANCE A TWO OUT OF FIVE RISK THE SEVERE STORMS FORECAST CENTER IS SAYING THAT WE COULD SEE SOME HEAVIER STORMS. THE MAIN THREAT I THINK WOULD BE SOME HEAVY RAIN, BUT THAT CAN WASH DOWN SOME PRETTY STRONG WINDS FROM UP TOP LARGE HAIL. NOT OUT OF THE QUESTION SPIN UP TORNADO VERY VERY UNLIKELY THE WAY EVERYTHING IS SETTING UP BUT THE BEST BET FOR RAIN THIS WEEKEND IS PROBABLY GOING TO BE FRY A SATURDAY AFTERNOON. WE HAVEN’T THUNDERSHOWER IN BOTH SUNDAY AND MONDAY, I THINK MOST BOTH DAYS ARE STILL PRETTY DRY WARM NOT REAL HUMID, BUT WARM AND THEN IT LOOKS LIKE THAT’S THE CASE THROUGH MOST OF THE NEXT WEEK. THERE’LL BE A FEW OPPORTUNITIES OF RAIN. IT’S A KIND OF SUMMER LIKE PATTERN AS WE HEAD IN JULY. JUST CHECK BACK E

A southerly flow of hot and humid air will take over the Susquehanna Valley the next few days. Friday will be our hottest day of the year with temperatures getting into the mid 90s. A few spots could see a late day thunderstorm pop up. As a cool front approaches Saturday, it looks like we'll see our greatest chance of showers and storms for the holiday weekend. One round could move in during the morning and the second in the afternoon and evening. Some storms could become heavy or even severe. The question for the rest of the weekend is whether the front will keep moving south and dry us out, or linger and keep us wet? At this time we think there's at least a chance of some spotty storms around either day. Check back with us and don't change any outdoor plans at this time. Next week looks seasonably warm and humid with a few chances of some rain.
