HARLAN “FERGIE” FERGUSON

Harlan “Fergie” Ferguson, age 93, of Huron, passed away Thursday, June 23, 2022, at Avantara – Groton.

His funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM, Tuesday, June 28th at the Kuhler Funeral Home. His funeral service will be live-streamed through the Kuhler Funeral Home website. A private family burial will be in the Britton Cemetery at a later date.

Visitation will be from Noon to 2:00 PM, Tuesday at the Kuhler Funeral Home, with his family present at 1:00 PM.

Harlan “Fergie” Floyd Ferguson was born on July 3, 1928, to Floyd and Mabel (Bross) Ferguson, at Cresbard, South Dakota. They lived at Chelsey and he attended school in Aberdeen. He joined the United States Army on March 9, 1946, and served until his honorable discharge on September 22, 1947.

Harlan married Margaret “Marge” Derry on February 1, 1948, in St. Paul, Minnesota. They later moved to Kidder, South Dakota, where he was employed with the Jarrett Farms. He later drove route truck for Buhl’s Laundry, which relocated them to Huron in 1974. He drove truck for Huron Drilling and later for Schoenhard Ford.

He was a member and past commander of the Reisen Weber-Wolf Post of the American Legion at Kidder, South Dakota. He was also a member of the Uptown AA in Huron. Harlan enjoyed dancing and could be found dancing the night away with members of the Huron Senior Dance Club.

He was preceded in death by Marge; his son, Kenneth; his daughter, Sherry Swanson-Bosse; two sonsin-law, Jerry Swanson and Leslie Mehlhaff; his great-granddaughter, Phoenix Burmeister; his parents and all seven of his siblings.

Grateful for having shared his life are his daughters, Marcia (Terry) Haaland, Deb (Lee) Harrison, Kathy Mehlhaff and Sandy (Dave) Kuhns; his sons, Tom (Teresa) Ferguson and Jim (Sherrie) Ferguson; and his son-in-law, Rick Bosse.

His is also survived by his grandchildren, Kelly (Jesse) Burmeister, Kyle (Michelle) Haaland, Traci (Rob) Johnson, Lori (Dan) Daikawa, Cody (Julie) Swanson, Matthew (Denise) Ferguson, Jennifer (Matt) Cornelisen and Kristen (Charlie) Kuhn; his stepgrandchildren, Lisa (Lon) Kopecky, Mari (Paul) von Fischer, Gina Mehlhaff, Dan (Deb) Mehlhaff, Jake (Taylor) Graves, Hannah Mayo, Tyson (Danielle) Bosse, Geoffrey Bosse, Ryan (Shawnna) Bosse, Stephen (Jennifer) Scettrini II, Kamela Scettrini and Hunter Scettrini; as well as his great-grandchildren, Reese Haaland, Zack, Talon and Tre’ Johnson, Kullan, Makenna and Cooper Daikawa, Blake, Evelyn and Emeline Ferguson, Tor and Matias Cornelisen and Ethan, Emmaline and Juliet Kuhn; his step-great-grandchildren, Gauge Smith, Landon, Lance and Lawson Kopecky, Isaac and Summer von Fischer, Macy, Elly and Myles Mehlhaff, Ronan Tucker, Piper Jo Graves, Stephen III, Gunner, Bella, Dominick and Colton Scettrini, Alissa (Jordan) Winter, McKenzie Cease, Aubrey, Griffin and Dylan Bosse, Mason and Bradey Bosse, and McKennley, Kenadie and Britynn Bosse; and step-great-great-grandchildren, Mason, Colson Winter and Hudson Winter.
