(WBBM NEWSRADIO) — A Munster, Indiana police officer was hospitalized after a crash Wednesday night during a chase.

Officer Bradley Riemerts was trying to pull over a speeding car that was weaving in and out of traffic just before 9 p.m., authorities said, but Riemerts collided with a pickup truck.

The officer’s SUV struck a utility pole, and he had to be extricated from the vehicle.

He was taken to Community Hospital, where he was treated and released, police said.

The driver of the truck was uninjured. The driver of the speeding car got away; police have not released a description.
