Ripley shooting suspect added to TBI Most Wanted List after checking out of hospital

MEMPHIS, Tenn.– The suspect in a shooting in Ripley, Tennessee that left one dead and three people injured, including the suspect, has been added to TBI’s Most Wanted List after he checked himself out of the hospital.

The hunt continues for 19-year-old suspect Kylan Beard who is considered armed and dangerous after a deadly shooting in Ripley that left 18-year-old Donell Barbee Jr. dead and two children hurt.

Beard was shot in the leg during the incident. On Wednesday, officials say Beard was at the Regional Medical Center and checked himself out of the hospital where he was being treated for his injury.

Regional one told WREG that if a patient is in custody of a law enforcement agency, they will have an officer on-site with the patient. They don’t know if this was the case with Beard – but they say they aren’t responsible or involved in the law enforcement aspect.

Police say everything unfolded in Ripley when Beard kicked in the door to a shed on Spivey Street, firing multiple shots while dressed in all black and wearing a face covering.

Barbee’s mother Brandi Driver-Jones told WREG that she believes her son was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Investigators say Beard was found 20 yards from the shed with a loaded ak-47 that matched shell casings on the scene.

That’s when he was flown to Regional Medical Center.

Beard is wanted by the Ripley Police Department, U.S. Marshals, and the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation for first-degree murder, especially aggravated burglary, and possession of a firearm to commit a dangerous felony.
