Down to its very core, the shop is part of a love story.
Hillbilly Hot Dogs in Cabell County in West Virginia is known nationwide for its wild spirit pride and even wilder menu.
But some may not know the love story behind it.
"Well my fantastic Sonny, who I lost in July, he passed in July. Twenty-four years ago, 25 years ago, he brought me back here to visit and I absolutely fell in love with the area and his old house is up there in the hills. And I just said honey, ‘clear this land, and let’s build a weenie stand,’ " Owner Sharie Knight said.
And they did just that. For 23 years, owners Sonny and Sherri worked side by side, bringing visitors from all across the county, appearing on Food Network, the Travel Channel and sharing their love story for years to come.
"It means everything to me because my husband and I were married 23 years and we renewed our vows 34 times in our 23 years. So, this is really a work of love because to work every day with him and be with him. He was my oxygen,” Sherri said.
Along with the Hillbilly Hot Dog, the shop features the Snuffy Dog, the West Virginia Dog, the Buckeye Dog, the Taco Dog, the Chunks Junk Yard Dog, the Strictly Business Dog, and the Nacho Dog, among others.
