BIBB COUNTY — One of the two Bibb County Sheriff’s deputies who was shot during a car chase on Wednesday, June 29, has died as a result of his injuries.
Brad Johnson, 32, died at UAB Hospita at 3:18 p.m. on Thursday, according to the Bibb County District Attorney’s Office.
Johnson had been a deputy sheriff for a little more than seven years. He was the father of two daughters and was reportedly engaged to be married. Published reports state that his organs will be donated to people who may need them.
Steven Johnson posted on Facebook on Wednesday that his son, Brad Johnson, was one of the two deputies injured in the shooting, according to a report from AL.com.
At the time of that social media post, Brad Johnson reportedly still had some brain activity, but he is not expected to pull through at this time.
“He still has a very small brain activity,” Steven Johnson stated. “His heart is still working. They are not giving positive outcome. Right now we are just waiting. I know the God I serve can restore. As long as I have breath.. 100% healing . In the natural he is gone.. so just keep praying.. Let God be God.”
Austin Patrick Hall, the 26-year-old convicted felon charged with shooting two Bibb County deputies has been found and arrested on Thursday morning.
Hall was discovered about half a mile from where the shooting took place, hiding in a tent behind a mobile home, according to a report by the Bibb County Sheriff’s Office. As law enforcement approached, Hall shouted that he was unarmed, and was taken into custody without incident.
The shooting occurred on Golfer’s Trail in Brierfield around 4 p.m. on Wednesday, and Hall fled on foot. This sparked a manhunt across a section of middle Alabama, and Hall was eventually found about two miles from the site of the command post set up by law enforcement.
The deputies were rushed to UAB Hospital.
One injured deputy has been identified by a family member on social media.
According to public records, Hall has been arrested multiple times and faced 46 criminal charges since the time he was 17 years old.
Hall, who has been arrested on 46 criminal charges since he was 17, is being taken to the Shelby County Jail.
