SOMERSET, Ky. (FOX 56) – Continental Refining Company (CRC) purchased a Russell Springs-based oil refinery in an effort to continue its expansion Wednesday.

The purchase is part of CRC’s expansion as it is investing an additional $31.5 million to acquire and install a soybean crushing, biodiesel refining, and blending facility at the legacy CRC oil refinery in Somerset.

The acquisition includes Russell County Oil’s bulk terminal in Russel Springs, along with more than 200 active customers to whom it provides bulk fuel and wet fueling services for surrounding counties in eastern Kentucky.

The CRC purchase will create up to 32 jobs with an annual payroll of over $2.65 million including taxes and benefits, according to a news release, and an average salary range of about $18-20 per hour.
