WEST BLOOMFIELD (WWJ) – A man is in custody after a reported domestic assault led to a standoff with police.

Officials tell WWJ the standoff lasted more than an hour, but eventually a man was talked into coming out of a house in the 3000 block of Fieldview.

Deputy Chief Curt Lawson said officers were called to the home near Green Lake and Commerce around 2:30 p.m. on the report of a domestic assault.

When officers arrived, the woman told officers she had been assaulted and they escorted her out.

At some point, the man told police he was armed with an AK-47 and he was going to shoot them.

Authorities then set up a perimeter around the house and told residents of about 10 neighboring homes to shelter in their basements.

Lawson said the man will be facing charges, but it was not immediately clear what those charges will be.

No information about the suspect has been released.

The woman suffered injuries during the alleged assault, but authorities did not disclose her injuries or the nature of the assault.
