Littleton police said an alleged act of vandalism at an anti-abortion pregnancy care center could rise to the level of a hate crime.
Pathways Pregnancy Care Center in Littleton is described as a Christian ministry that says it helps parents with stressful pregnancies by providing information about alternatives to abortion.
Littleton police said someone spray-painted, "Fund abortion; abort God" on the building.
Police said the people who work and volunteer at Pathways are now concerned for their safety and are taking internal steps to increase their security. Investigators said criminal mischief or vandalism charges are possible for whoever is responsible, and police are also talking to the state attorney general's office about whether it could be elevated to a hate crime.
Officials said that would depend on the motivation.
"Certainly, we're going to do our due diligence to find the individual or individuals responsible for this and bring them to justice," said Littleton Police Chief Paul Smith.
News 9 reached out to Pathways but did not hear back.
"One of the things I don't think these vandals realize is that places like Pathways are really doing amazing work to help mothers and fathers through a difficult time in their lives when they're struggling with their pregnancy," said Jason Hennessey, president of New Hampshire Right to Life.
Police said the vandalism appears to be an isolated incident.
