Firefighters were battling a brush fire along the side of Route 2 in the Leominster area ahead of the busy Fourth of July holiday weekend.Video shot from a vehicle dash camera showed smoke and flames burning the grassy shoulder area of the westbound side of the highway. Massachusetts State Police told WCVB that they received calls just before 4 p.m. Thursday reporting a large brush fire along the westbound side of the highway near mile marker 99 in Leominster. Police said the highway had to be completely shut down for a few minutes. Authorities said the fire was knocked down to a smaller area, and Leominster firefighters were working on knocking down hotspots.
