SMELTERVILLE, ID - On the afternoon of Wednesday, June 29, 2022, the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office received a phone call requesting a welfare check on 41-year-old Aaron Peterson, of Smelterville, ID.

A responding patrol Sergeant arrived on scene at the residence and attempted to contact anyone inside, however initially got no answer. After several more attempts, a female inside the residence responded and began conversing with the Sergeant. The female would not allow the Sergeant, who was now being assisted by the Kellogg Police Department, into the residence.

While the Kellogg Police Department assisted in holding the residence, the Sergeant applied for a search warrant to enter the residence to check the welfare of Mr. Peterson. According to a press release from the Shoshone County Sheriff's Office, prior to the Sergeant obtaining the warrant, the female inside exited the residence with a 4-month-old infant.

The search warrant was then granted and the Sergeant, assisted by the Kellogg Police Department, entered the residence. While inside, they located a deceased male inside. A subsequent search warrant for collection of evidence was also obtained and the scene was then processed.

According to police, the body located inside the residence was that of 41-year-old Aaron Blake Peterson. Peterson's body has been released to the Coroners Office to be transported to the Medical Examiners Office for further investigation.

The female that was inside the residence, who was later identified as Stephanie Rena Paris, was booked at the Shoshone County Sheriff’s Office on the charges of Murder, Failure to Report a dead body, and Resist and Obstruct.

The case remains under further investigation at this time. Next of kin have been notified.
