VINCENNES, Ind. (WTWO/WAWV) — A program designed to help individuals whose lives have been severely disrupted by their mental illness is expanding.
At Thursday’s Good Samaritan Board of Governors meeting, the board approved a plan to move their Samaritan Center Wabash Valley Friendship Clubhouse to a larger location. The move comes after the current facility has struggled to be able to serve the growing membership in the program.
“The purpose of the Clubhouse is to provide a safe place for members to connect with others and the Clubhouse community,” clubhouse Coordinator Dave Engstrom said. “We work side-by-side with our members helping them in their recovery to build confidence, be more active and break isolation.”
The current location is at 401 S. Seventh Street in Vincennes. While being able to serve members’ needs for the past year has reached its limit as more folks join the program. The average number served at the current facility is 16-18 per day with a total of 80 members.
The new location will be at 501 S. Sixth Street and is approximately 4,800 square feet. The location will feature a thrift store, conference room, dining space, and a fully functioning kitchen. It’s expected that the new location will be able to accommodate 40 members per day without overcrowding.
The project is expected to cost a total of $549,841. Move-in for the new location is expected to be at the end of September this year.
