Police officers arrested a man they describe as the victim's boyfriend after she was found dead under puzzling circumstances early Thursday morning, a city spokesperson said in a press release.

The victim has been identified as Gladys Gutierrez, 38, the spokesperson said Thursday afternoon. The man they arrested was 40-year old Luis Mora of Sevierville.

At approximately 2:20 a.m., dispatchers received a call reporting a gunshot in the area of Grassy Meadows Lane, a manufactured home community south of downtown Sevierville. Officers responded and canvassed the neighborhood and interviewed at least two people, but found nothing. They finally left the area at about 3:15 a.m., the release stated.

Then at about 8 a.m., dispatchers received a call from Gutierrez's co-worker, who reported that she had gone to the woman's residence when she did not show up to work, but was unable to make contact with anyone there.

Officers responded and found Gutierrez dead inside the home, the release stated.
