Altoona police say a Blair County man is behind bars after he admitted to setting fire to his own home.
Police say Matthew Wombacher, 33, faces charges of arson, risking catastrophe, reckless endangerment, disorderly conduct and reckless burning, according to online court records.
According to the affidavit, first responders were dispatched to a house fire, located along the 1300 block of 16th Ave. in the city of Altoona, on the evening of June 28.
Investigators say a fire inspector spoke with one of the residents, identified as Wombacher, who told authorities that he had been drinking and smoking a cigar on the back porch, and that he had placed the lit cigar inside a garbage can and left.
Police say Wombacher was asked to return to the residence, at which time he reportedly became "verbally aggressive" and uncooperative.
Authorities say upon further investigation, a witness told police that he had noticed Wombacher burning unknown items on the back porch of the home prior to leaving the scene.
Police say they also spoke with the female resident of the home, who was not home at the time of the fire, who reportedly told officers that Wombacher had previously "discussed burning down the home and collecting the insurance money."
Authorities say when investigators later questioned Wombacher about the blaze, he stated, "I set the fire," and told police that he was "just having fun."
Wombacher is being housed at the Blair County Prison, on $75,000 bail, court dockets show.
His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 13.
